going to use #novembeat to record some drums, which i am in the process of attempting to learn. this one started with a pitched electronic bass drum which i quantized and then basically improvised over with snare and hi hat. definitely hear myself getting into and out of the pocket in this one, and that'll probably be the (a) theme for the month.
this was like... 20 or so takes after i worked out the handful of basic variations i was dealing with. but i just improvised using those variations rather than planning all 32 bars ahead of time.
in the future i'll probably generally try to have the bass drum on the same track as the other drums since playing without my feet is not how i usually practice, but since i just got back from a trip and came up with the bass drum thing first i'm letting myself off the hook today.
somehow i didn't realize novembeat had an actual website with prompts until after recording this. sure, i guess this beat is "congruent." prove it isn't!!!
